About The Show

Smalltown Boy is a jukebox musical featuring some of the biggest New Wave hits from the 1980s. A drama/comedy set in the glitter and grit of New York City’s East Village, the play tells the story of Simon, a 17-year-old runaway. Expelled from a prestigious prep school and about to be banished to a Catholic military academy, this naïve runaway from the wrong side of the Long Island tracks meets a group of teens and is quickly seduced by the New Wave scene. Against the backdrop of Reagan’s America and the looming AIDS crisis, Simon falls in love, crashes hard, and searches for the one thing he’s never had: a place to belong.

But – mostly – it’s about finding HOME.
